Underrated Love Songs

Okay, I kid you not. I am writing this because there's one very special lady in my life right now, and with that, come the thoughts of sharing my joy to all of you peeple who bumped into this blog post.

Also, since this month is February, the "Love Month" they say, it is only fitting to give some of my go-to songs about love and relationships. I am listening to these even from years back, hoping, praying and wishing that I, too, can have this unique and incredible experience.

As the title suggests, I will list down here love songs that are not so well-known, hence underrated by us peeple all these years. Here's five of them:

God Gave Me You by Dave Barnes (2010)

(Click here for lyrics. It opens in a new tab.)

This is not the more popular song performed by Brian McKnight (AlDub days, not a cult member just to be clear HAHA). While both talk about how the lady fell for a guy whose life was a mess and recognizing that God gave them their lovers to change their views on life. The striking difference though is that this song highlights couples being together through thick and thin, as if they are in a relationship or have been married for a long time.

On my own, I'm only half of what I could be, I can't do without you.
We are stitched together, and what love has tethered, I could never undo.

Those lines are especially true to those couples whose marriage have stood the test of time. The song acknowledges that "one can never undo what love has tethered," which is the goal of this marital relationship, being one and should not be separated by man, as they are brought together by God.

Art of Love by Guy Sebastian feat. Jordin Sparks (2009)

(Click here for lyrics. It opens in a new tab.)

'Cause we're gonna make our mistakes,
find out how much your heart can take.
But I know that you got my back and baby I got yours.

What I love about this song is the acknowledgment that falling in love or being in a romantic relationship is not going to be a walk in the park. Lovers will commit mistakes, petty at times, and these mistakes can prove how enduring their love for each other is.

There's a tone of humility, respect and accountability in the lines of this song, like saying sorry in advance, trying not to mess up, telling the other that they may do something that will cause the other to stumble.

Indeed, to err is human. To love is human, too.

(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time on You by *NSYNC (1998)

(Click here for lyrics. It opens in a new tab.)

That is a long but a meaningful song title. Many peeple may not understand what this song really means, let me briefly break it down for you.

It talks about the appreciation of his other half, affirming how her love brings profound tranquility, thus making the singer ask "Can this be true? Tell me, can this be real?"

Because of the touching love he experienced, the singer thought that when God created his lover, He may had spent more time in adding some more beautiful characteristics into her, which "broke the mold when [she] came in this world."

So guys, if you're lost for words on how to appreciate your lady, you have to listen to this.

Say It Again by C21 (2002)

(Click here for lyrics. It opens in a new tab.)

The initial exchange of ILYs is always magical. However, it is THE litmus test in distinguishing infatuation (which is only based on feelings) against love (you're now getting committed to each other).

That's why when somebody says "I love you" to you, it is a starting point of a life-changing experience that may lead to your real forever. A warning comes with this though, ILYs are to be taken really really seriously.

So, if you, without a doubt, can lay your heart, soul, night and day on the one you're pursuing, you may say the three little words that will change his or her life.

When God Made You by NewSong (2004)

(Click here for lyrics. It opens in a new tab.)

This one is a song I was recently acquainted with by one very special lady in my life I mentioned earlier in this post (God willing, ya'll gotta know her after I formally ask for her parents' blessing and for the green light to take things further).

I love this love song because the lines resonate with what I have in mind:

Now that I have found you,
I believe that a miracle has come when God sends the perfect one.
Now gone are all my questions about why,
and I've never been so sure of anything in my life.

Here the song recognizes that it is still God who is in control: He hears our prayers, and it may include us asking God for a compatible partner; He knows what we need and having a relationship and eventually having a married life are all in His hands; it is He who sends us the perfect one that He created for us to seek and find.

Now that I found her, all questions to God about my mishaps and misfortunes are literally gone.

Perfect wedding song, ey?
